So many custom Monsters

Taking a break from the holiday themed commissions to work on one entirely not holiday themed! Two done, third started, and one more after that.

More custom work (-in-progress)

I started the second of four pieces in a custom order today. I hope to finish it and the entirety of the third piece tomorrow, followed by the fourth and last on Thursday. : )

Whoops I missed Wednesday!

I may have missed "One of a Kind Wednesday."  : / So! Here, instead, is one of the commissions I did this week!

Also, here is a photo of my oft-sleepy companion.

Recent Commission

Just finished this last night. They are a pair of wedding Monsters. Yep! A non-traditional wedding that is in fact 1960s kitschy camping themed.

Last minute emergency commission!

Earlier today I was asked to do a commission that needed to be finished tonight and mailed out tomorrow with overnight postage. Wow-ee!

Here it is!

08 December 2009

Last two in a commission of eleven.

I finally stopped dragging my feet about it, and finished the last two custom Monsters in an order of eleven. This was a very draining set to make, which is why I took so long making it. Everything was set out for me with very set and precise details that the customer wanted.

It was also very educational. While hats are still not perfect, they are far better than the first one I ever made for the Potato Cowboy. Also, I've learned that one of my flex-y tools is good for constructing super small details on before transfering them to the Monster itself. I also finally experimented with translucent clay and was very pleased with the results, as both beer mugs I made look frosted. You can see the gold I used for beer underneath, making the beer mug look full of, well, beer!

The last two things I learned is I need the customer to not tell me, "well no hurry, whenever you get to it." Because I apparently will never get to it. Also, I think I like to have a bit more creative control over the Monsters. As I mentioned before the customer knew what they wanted in what colors and how. And then when I found I couldn't do something in clay.... well, it got frustrating and hard to have to try for hours until I maybe--and even then it risked looking mediocre--got it, rather than being able to brainstorm something else I could do that would look just as, if not more, awesome.

Oh my gosh. FOUR. I must be out of control.

Or making up for lost time. Anyway. Here are two more commissions out of an eleven Monster order. I have two left to do.

Pumpkin carving and latest commission

Yeah, two unrelated things, I know. But I'm too lazy right now to make two separate entries. So first, here are the pumpkins.
Vyts carved the Hallowed Helm from WoW (on the right) upon my request, while I tediously worked on the Deathstar (on the left). I know. We're dorks. I'm ok with that, though.
WOO! FINALLY finished this order (though the customer is sending a new order of four my way!) This was the hardest because I had to redo the hair three times (it kept looking not good with the rest of the Monster) and I had no idea how to do shopping bags. So after several attempts! BAM!

25 October 2009

I'm behind on posting a few commissions.

I've been too lazy to take "making of" photos of these. I am particularly pleased with the Cubs logo on the t-shirt and am rather happy with the translucent clay I used for the beer mug.
I wish the skateboarder had more normal looking hair and not just a bowl cut-looking thing. But, I was trying for different boy hair, and it didn't happen so well. Heh.
Overall I'm quite pleased!

So here they are!

Brief reprieve with a sneak preview!

I know I am not done posting the Bridal Party Timid Monsters yet (hey! my sister had 20 people in her bridal party not counting herself or the groom), but I thought I'd give you a reprieve and post one of my latest commissions AND the start of a new line of Timid Monsters!

TADA! Timid Monster Plushes! Something I had been talking about doing forever and was finally pushed into with a commission request from Tiffany over at PicnicBasketCrafts. Thanks for the boost forward! They were a blast to make, and I will have plenty more finished and up for individual sale soon.

I like the bright blue one with the distrusting gaze. Oh! And they all have spots on their butts/backs! I'll post more pictures when I start posting them for sale.

I will now return you to your regularly schedule Bridal Party Monsters.

The rest of the girls from the bridal party

This should be it. If you want to see the men, go to my DAGallery
Edit: I lied, I still have myself to post (apparently I am not photographed) and the flowergirl and ring bearer.

30 September 2009

The first installment of many. This is Pam the Timid Monster who stood up with Vytas the Timid Monster.
Perhaps in future posts, I'll do more than two so this doesn't drag on for weeks. Chris and Damon did, afterall, have 20 stand up. That is including the ringbearer and flower girl.
Maybe I'll just skip some of them. Other than color changes, they are mostly the same. The women all have different fancy hair though.
It is funny because I shot all the women fast and was having troubles with lighting. And Vytas shot all the men fast and had different troubles with the lighting.

Cake topper

My sister commissioned a Timid Monster cake topper.
It featured a replica of her dress, a mini version of the veil I made her, a tiny bouquet of roses and daisies, a matching hair-do modelled after pictures from her hair and make-up trial run, and of course, a dashing little groom.

They chose green and yellow for the groom because his favorite baseball team is the Oakland As. She is "old school"--apparently--Chicago White Sox. And, of course, she couldn't have been a black and white Monster in a wedding dress next to a groom in black. AND for those who didn't know, which I think is mostly everyone, Chris proposed to Damon on the score board of a Sox/As game on the 4th of July. So at the very least, the bride is nice and patriotic. Here is a picture of the topper on the cake. I think it could have stood to be a little bigger, but it was the first topper I've ever made. Also, it fit perfectly in the little fancy ring-o-frosting the bakery did as a placemarker. So I guess it was alright.

And! If you look around the bottom of the cake, those are all future posts. Hmmm, what could they be?! The answer to come!

28 September 2009

The posting of wedding stuff begins

The ring-bearer's pillow, guest book, and flower girl's basket for my sister's wedding.
Stupidly I did not take any decent photos of her veil. I'll have to wait and see if the wedding photographer got any good shots of it.
I still have MANY, MANY more things I did for her wedding to post, so be on the look out.

Moose and Cricket Commisison

My latest commission was for a moose wearing a baseball hat with a cricket wearing ballet shoes on its back. The buyer has a son whose nickname is moose and a daughter whose nickname is cricket. So really it is much cuter than the crazy I sounded while asking Vytas his opinion on sizes.
The cricket is purple. I was afraid the brown would bake too dark and a black cricket would just blend in.
I didn't take making of photographs because I made most of it while running the Violet Hold and weilding a camera while dps-ing and arting would have just been too much. And because it wasn't a Timid Monster, and I didn't think of it until I was putting it into the oven this morning.
